Abstract

Aquaponics system combines fish and vegetable farming to form an ecological system that focuses on sustainable food production, but suffers significant manual intervention. In this work, we develop a cyber physical system (CPS) testbed, called as Cyber Physical Aquaponics (CyPhA) system, that can efficiently monitor and control an aquaponics system. Initially, we have used six sensors (namely, pH, Dissolved Oxygen (DO), Total Dissolved Solid (TDS), humidity, water and air temperature) for water and air quality measurement. And, water pumps, aeration pumps and LED based alert indicators are used for controlling the aquaponics system. Sensor data collection and control signal delivery to and from a central server emulating a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system use Message Queue Telemetry Transport (MQTT) protocol. CyPhA system is running since last 30 days and maintain a good water quality for both fish 1 and vegetable farming.
