Abstract

Objective: To verify whether the controlled use of water currents during aquatic strength training (AST) increases the muscular activity of certain trunk stabilizing muscles. Design: Before-after trial. Setting: Hydrotherapy pool. Participants: Convenience sample of 4 fit young men, with low subcutaneous fat levels who had never experienced disabling low back pain. Interventions: Movements evaluated were a series of 15±2 repetitions, at 9 to 10 on the OMNI perceived exertion scale for resistance exercise, of glenohumeral adduction and abduction on a horizontal plane, with Hydro-Tone Bells and without the remaining body segments making any movements to help.
