Abstract

High-dose bisphosphonate treatment has been associated with the development of bisphosphonate related osteonecrosis of the jaw (BRONJ) in patients undergoing dental surgery. Burr, Allen, and collaborators1,2 have used a beagle model to study this association. The purpose of this study is to determine what effect recombinant human bone morphogenic protein 2 (rhBMP2) has on the early healing of tooth extraction sites after treatment with a single high dose of zoledronic acid. Nine adult female beagle dogs (2-3 years old) were placed in 3 groups of 3 dogs each.
