Abstract
Objective: To identify factors that impact prescription of types of wheelchairs for older adults. Design: Retrospective medical chart reviews. Setting: Center for Assistive Technology, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Participants: Data were gathered from medical chart for 337 individuals. These individuals were aged >60 and received a new wheelchair (scooter) from the Center for Assistive Technology in the years 2007–08. Main Outcome Measures: Data were classified in three tiers: tier 1 (manual versus powered mobility devices); tier 2 (powered wheelchairs versus scooters); and tier 3 (low end versus high end powered wheelchairs).
