Abstract
Setting: CARF-accredited pediatric inpatient rehabilitation unit. Patient: A 7-year-old girl with an anoxic brain injury involving the basal ganglia. Case Description: The basal ganglia are at high risk for injury during an anoxic episode. The sequelae of this type of injury include movement disorders, postural difficulty and cognitive impairment, all of which are difficult to treat. We report the case of a 7-year-old girl with an anoxic brain injury due to smoke inhalation. She rapidly developed severe choreiform movements involving the head, trunk, and limbs.
