Abstract

In Japan, it is becoming an aging society. It is observed about elderly people’s condition in the mouth. Then, we observed the patient who has taken much medicine. We reported the state of cheek membrane, and occlusion at the 32nd Japanese Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery north Japan district meeting. We investigated continuously. And we report an outline about it. It is a period at the end of December, 2006 from January, 2004. The target patient has three conditions. 1) Occlusion of a molar part is stable. 2) Carry out communication. 3) Two or more medicine is taken. They were 26 persons in total. There were 9 men, and 17 women. The average age was 74.8 years old. The whole was divided into 2 groups. A group has taken medicine with the side effects of mouth dryness. There were 6 men, and 11 women. The average age was 70.8 years old. B group has taken medicine without the side effects of mouth dryness. There were 3 men, and 6 women. The average age was 78.7 years old. And then we measured the degree of dryness of cheek membrane and occlusal pressure, in each three right and left. And average value was adopted. Occlusal pressure used Occlusal force meter. It was made in Nagano Keiki Company. Dryness of cheek membrane used Moisture checker. It was made in Yoshida Company. We calculated the correlation coefficient of dryness of cheek membrane and occlusal pressure. The whole value was −0.281. A group was −0.213. B group was −0.560. Consideration Dryness of cheek membrane and occlusal pressure were unrelated to each other. Except medicinal side effects, there are many elements which affect mouth dryness. Investigation including other factors was considered to be required.
