Abstract
Objective: To assess and quantitate the epidural contrast flow patterns noted during fluoroscopically guided S1 transforaminal epidural steroid injections. Design: Prospective, nonrandomized, observational, IRB approved study. Setting: Academic/private pain management and physiatric practice. Participants: 14 patients undergoing S1 transforaminal epidural steroid injections were investigated. Interventions: S1 transforaminal epidural steroid injections are an accepted treatment in the comprehensive, conservative care for low back and buttock pain with a radicular component secondary to lumbar disk pathology or spinal stenosis.
