Abstract

Objective: To determine if radiographic evidence of lumbar spine foraminal stenosis adversely affects the clinical response to lumbar transforaminal epidural steroid injections for treatment of radicular low back pain (LBP). Design: Retrospective chart review. Setting: University hospital outpatient clinic. Participants: 53 consecutive patients (28 men, 25 women; average age, 48y) diagnosed with radicular LBP seen in our interventional spine clinic from 2004 to 2005. Interventions: Every patient in the study underwent a fluoroscopically guided procedure using a 3.5-in 25-gauge needle directed to the lumbar spine foramen.
