Abstract

Statement of the ProblemThe purpose of this study was to evaluate the complications that occurred after reduction and fixation of facial bone fractures using absorbable plates and screws.Materials and Methods245 patients received reduction and fixation with fixation of absorbable plates and screws for facial bone fractures from March 2002 to June 2004 at the Dept. of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Ulsan University Hospital. There were 195 cases of midline fractures and 50 cases of mandibular fracture. The follow-up period was from 15 to 20 months after surgery.Method of Data Analysisn/aResultsComplications occurred for 32 midface fractures and 3 mandibular fractures. 30 had continual pains. 18 cases had constant swelling. The plate was exposed in 3 cases. 15 patients complained of an abnormal facial sensation, and foreign body reaction occurred in 3 cases.ConclusionThese complications seemed to be closely correlated with using absorbable plates and screws Statement of the ProblemThe purpose of this study was to evaluate the complications that occurred after reduction and fixation of facial bone fractures using absorbable plates and screws.
