Abstract

Setting: Inpatient rehabilitation unit. Patient: An 81-year-old woman. Case Description: The patient with medical history of atrial fibrillation and coronary artery disease on Coumadin developed sudden, severe back pain around T6 with gradual onset of bilateral leg numbness and weakness followed by rapid complete paraplegia and sensory loss associated with loss of bladder and bowel sensations. Assessment/Results: The patient was anesthetic below T6 bilaterally with loss of reflexes, motor power (0/5), and perianal and perivaginal sensations.
