Abstract

Objective: To use item response theory (IRT) to develop item banks for 3 participation domains delineated by the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health: mobility; domestic life; and community, social, and civic life. Design: Cross-sectional study that evaluated items in terms of dimensionality and estimated IRT models by using both nonparametric models and the generalized partial credit model. Setting: New England rehabilitation centers. Participants: 518 patients (mean age, 65; 60% women) with neurologic (n=154), orthopedic (n=252), or medically complex (n=112) diagnoses.
