Abstract
Mutations in the interferon regulatory factor 6 gene (IRF6) cause popliteal pterygium syndrome (PPS), a rare autosomal dominant orofacial clefting syndrome accompanied by skin and genital anomalies. We encountered two Japanese familes in which several members were affected with PPS. Here we report results of mutation analysis and functional study of mutated alleles identified in the families.
