Abstract

Introduction: The mandibular fracture is an important topic in oral and maxillofacial traumatology. It can represent the first or second most common facial bone fracture, occurring twice as frequently as fractures of the bones of the midface, with incidence rates of about 38% of total facial bone fractures. The mandibular fracture represents one of the most important maxillofacial problems worldwide and constitutes the bulk of the trauma treated by oral and maxillofacial services. The purpose of this retrospective study was to evaluate the epidemiology, treatment, and complications of mandibular fracture associated or not with other facial fractures, when the influence of the surgeon's skill and preference to any rigid internal fixation system devices was minimized.
