Abstract

In the Spring of 1967 a number of industrial, commercial, and welfare organizations initiated a youth employment program designed to cope with the problem of growing unemployment among young people on Chicago's West Side. After a period of planning, it was agreed that the purview of the program should be expanded beyond that of job placement. In this larger perspective, a questionnaire was administered to seniors attending either of the three public high schools located in this area. A total of 1,015 questionnaires was secured. This represented 85.7 per cent of the senior class and showed no bias on the variables of race and sex.
