Abstract

Single open-phase fault (SOPF) in three-phase induction motor (TPIM) drives leads to undesired performances and in some cases shutdown of the drive system. This research proposes a post-fault operation strategy based on direct rotor field-oriented control (RFOC) technique for wye-connected TPIM drives during SOPF. In the proposed control system, symmetrical and asymmetrical transformation matrices are utilized for stator voltage and current variables, respectively. In addition, an extended Kalman filter (EKF) is used for the rotor flux estimation, filtration of stator currents, and obtaining their time derivatives. The performance of the introduced technique including steady and transient states during different reference speeds is experimentally validated for a wye-connected TPIM drive considering SOPF. Additionally, the performance of the proposed strategy is experimentally compared with conventional RFOC strategies.
