Abstract
Relationship of flexural strength and fully plastic strength of wide flange steel sections is explained; based on tests on 21 simple beams of various cross sectional dimensions and moment gradients, semi-empirical expressions for strengths and deformations are established and expressions for effective moment curvature relationships for any rolled steel section are obtained; results are compared with rigid plastic and elastic theories.
