Abstract

Background: Following a worldwide epidemic caused by Covid-19 and its post-acute sequelae, a variety of cardiovascular abnormalities have been reported in patients who have already gone through its acute phase and develop myocardial inflammation (myocarditis), myocardial infarction, right ventricular dysfunction, arrhythmias, shortness of breath, fatigue. The pathophysiological mechanisms of late complications are not yet well understood but it is anticipated that covid-19 alters the long-term trajectory of many cardiac diseases and referral to cardiac services for effective treatment. Material and methods: A systematic review was carried out in virtual bibliographic databases, based on evidence presented in articles and scientific journals, reviews and meta-analysis. The databases used were: PubMed, Epistemonikos, Google Scholar, Open Athens, Tripdatabase, Cocrcane. Results: 10 studies were included for review that met the criteria related to Covid-19 and the incidence of Covid-19 in the development of myocarditis or another cardiovascular condition in adult patients. Conclusion: Post Covid-19 myocarditis is a sequela, represents a challenge in the medical community and requires a high level of vigilance to achieve an accurate and timely diagnosis, as well as the follow-up of its evolution in the case of its manifestation.
