Abstract

Acute and chronic post abdominal surgery neuropathic pain is tormenting and distressful for the patients. The flawless and satisfying management to deal with the postoperative neuropathic pain remains a challenge in spite of advances of knowledge for the pathophysiology of acute and chronic pain, the development of minimally invasive surgical procedures and innovative methods of drug delivery. This article outlines the pharmacological treatments for acute neuropathic pain after abdominal surgery, and the pharmacological and non-pharmacological and invasive treatments for chronic neuropathic pain after abdominal surgery.
