Abstract
This article has the objective of evaluating the contributions that the study of ethnography can offer to the current journalism. With this aim, it will be presented definitions to the concept of ethnography, and also differences and similarities of this practice in relation to journalism. Then, there will be an exposition of examples of the use of ethnography in journalistic texts. At the end, the article discusses the concept of ethnographic journalism and its relevance to the profession and the study of journalism. Keywords: Ethnography. Immersion. Objectivity.

É preciso sublinhar que, de certa forma, todas essas distinções estão relacionadas, tornando complicado separá-las de maneira clara. Ele publicou em 1966 um livro que foi resultado da experiência de observação participante de um ano com a gangue de motoqueiros dos Hell’s Angels. No início dos anos 70, o jornalista se infiltrou em uma seita religiosa nos Estados Unidos para fazer uma reportagem, mas acabou tornando-se um integrante do grupo. Talvez por conta da sua experiência com os Angels, o próprio Thompson, durante as eleições de 1972, classificava como a maior falha do jornalismo político americano as relações pessoais que se desenvolviam entre políticos e repórteres. O que se percebe é uma intenção de Sefcovic praticar uma etnografia que, assim como o jornalismo gonzo, não se restringe a narrar os fato s, mas participar deles e, um pouco além, fazer transformações. Quase não se “ouvem”, porém, as “vozes” dos pesquisados (Wozniak, 2014)
