Abstract

The work discusses the possibility of using promising N-OFDM (TOFDM and SEFDM) signals with non-orthogonal subcarriers instead of OFDM in 5G NR scenarios. We investigated the feasibility of obtaining a gain in spectral efficiency by using relatively simple reception algorithms. It is shown that in 5G NR scenarios there is no gain in spectral or energy efficiency when using simple N-OFDM compared with OFDM MCSs. For some N-OFDM configurations, only intermediate points between MCSs on Shannon plane can be achieved.
