Abstract
The various methods that have been used to measure the atmospheric atomic oxygen profile are discussed briefly and it is suggested that there remains a significant uncertainty in the actual concentration. Even with these limitations a provisional Atomic Oxygen Reference model has been derived from average monthly ozone profiles and the MSIS-86 reference model atmosphere. A number of examples of the concentration profiles are presented in graphical form for the altitude range 40 – 130 km.
