Abstract

The attenuation of the sea-wave microseisms from the Black Sea before an earthquake in the Central Balkan region is discussed. The same effect was observed before the days with abnormally high aftershock activity. The phenomenon can be considered as a kind of modulation caused by the strains around the local lithosphere plate. The effect can possibly be used as a precursor in a complex earthquake prediction programme.
