Abstract
It is proposed that multiply charged water clusters contain varying combinations of the ion pairs H + (probably as H 3O +) and OH + (probably as H 2O + 2) acting as charge carriers. Formation of H + and OH + is discussed in terms of single- or double-ionization events on either individual or pairs of water molecules.
