Abstract
A quantitative description is given for the 81Rb activity during and after production of 81Rb via the bombardment of krypton gas with protons, involving the direct reaction 82Kr( p, 2n) 81Rb and the indirect reaction 82Kr(p, 2n) 81 m Rb ▪ 81Rb. The ratio of the yields of both reactions has been determined experimentally for the proton energy interval 24 → 23 MeV. A calculation is given of the possible errors in the calibration of 81 Rb 81 m Kr generators, when the delayed production of 81Rb via the decay from the parent radionuclide 81 m Rb is not properly accounted for.
