Abstract
AbstractThe paper shows a new procedure for the identification of the variable composition of the reaction mixture, namely determination of reaction kinetics of the chemical reaction in batch or semi-batch reactor. This procedure is based on the measurement of temperature profiles directly in the chemical reactor and makes it possible to respond to possible changes in the reactant’s composition without the need for the reaction kinetics laboratory determination. This can be very advantageous, for example, in the case of recycling processes, where the quality of raw materials can vary considerably and thus there may be problems with the unsatisfactory setting of the controller for such process. Chemical batch or semi-batch reactors behave as a non-linear system in terms of control and therefore require advanced control techniques mostly. This method can also help to detect poor quality raw materials during common processes. The derivation of this method is shown and a model example of a chemical semi-batch reactor is mentioned. The issue of reaction kinetics and its influence on chemical reactors control is also discussed.KeywordsSemi-batch reactor controlExothermic processSimulationIdentificationReaction kinetics
