Abstract

A RECENT communication1 by Chakraborty and Sen Gupta suggested that rice plants might be capable of fixing atmospheric nitrogen. We have made an attempt to confirm their result using the variety ‘Lead 35’ (a pure-line selection of material derived from British Guiana). No evidence of nitrogen-fixation has been obtained.
