Abstract
Based on diverse experimental data on (KBr${)}_{1\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}\mathrm{x}}$(KCN${)}_{\mathrm{x}}$ mixed crystals, we propose a model in which quadrupole moments of CN molecules freeze in small ferroelastic domains with random orientations, while dipole moments remain free to flip. This model leads to an interesting phase diagram with two different orientational glass phases.
