Abstract

Aerological properties of planetary boundary layer are very important for air pollution dispersion. It is suitable to research radar possibilities in this topic. In the paper a comparison between Doppler weather radar and Doppler sodar measurements has been made. A sodar is used to measure mainly in boundary layer but it measures pointy, in its location only. A radar gives a possibility of measurements in a big range to 100 km and more. The comparison of wind velocity and direction measurements will be shown. The preliminary results are the following: •• the effectiveness of radar measurements is better than sodar measurements in altitudes from 400 to 1000 m,•• the quantity results are often different,•• the trends of changes are similar.
