Abstract

The Boundary Element Method has been used to model the field enhancement factors of free-standing sub-nanometre graphite sheets, which are thought to be suitable for use as field emission sources. The variation of the enhancement factor over the surfaces of the edges and corners of the rectangular sheets has been explored. The dependence of the enhancement factor on the thickness, height and width of the sheets has been found and the results have been parameterized where possible by simple empirical functions. © 2008 Elsevier B.V.
