Abstract
Primary safety measures offer great potential for accident reduction. This paper highlights priority areas outlined in the 1993 European Transport Safety Council review (1) which could be addressed by such measures. The authors also assess the current knowledge with a view to the research-based possibilities for future developments in accident prevention which can be made through key aspects of car design.
