Abstract

A propane bubble chamber, with a tube through its centre containing high pressure hydrogen gas, has been used to measure the cross-section for the production of positive pions from protons by γ-rays with an energy between 165 and 212 MeV. In the usual notation, the value of the parametera0+has been found to be 12.9±2.1, 13.7±1.4, 13.6±1.8, 14.0±2.1, 13.0±2.9 in units of 10-30 cm2/sr, at γ-ray energies of 169.5, 178, 187, 196.5 and 206.5 MeV, respectively.
