Abstract

After brief descriptions of the most common industrial types of meter and a review of the relevant literature, various aspects of a typical meter are analysed. These include the effects of temperature, pressure and orientation. A governing equation is derived and the behaviour of calibrators is analysed. Dimensions of a typical meter design are used to obtain values for coefficients in the governing equation and the expansion due to changes in temperature and pressure. Consideration is given to the causes of 'back-slip'. The paper includes a general discussion of instrument accuracy, slippage tests and the use of the derivations for developing a computational prediction.
