Abstract
By adding appropriate auxiliary fields we exhibit a positive definite bare action for φ 4 theory in 2, 3, and 4 dimensions. As the zeta function regulator is removed the auxiliary fields decouple, leaving a perturbation theory identically that of φ 4 theory renormalized by zeta function regularization with minimal prescription for removing pole parts. We expect this method may allow a rigorous, nonperturbative construction of various field theories.
