Abstract

The fifth generation (5G) mobile communication system features low power consumption, high capacity, low latency, high reliability, and supports the Ultra-reliable and Low Latency Communications (uRLLC), which provides opportunity signals to assist the global navigation satellite system (GNSS) for high-precision positioning. It is important to explore the positioning capability of 5G New Radio (NR) under different transmission conditions for achieving high accuracy positioning with the 5G technology. There have been many researches utilizing 5G NR for positioning tracking, but a complete analysis and comparison for the positioning capability of NR reference signals is lacking. In this paper, the positioning reference signal (PRS), channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS) and synchronization signal (SS) in 5G NR are used for positioning tracking, whose relevant characteristics in multipath propagation channels are analyzed, and their positioning tracking capabilities are estimated using a channel estimation-based approach.
