Abstract

In a strip detector the absorption of energy occurs in a long strip, whereas the readout provides by two detectors positioned at the ends of the strip. Accuracy of coordinate estimation or position resolution is the crucial characteristic for using strip detectors for tracking and imaging. It is obvious, that the position resolution is closely connected with the energy resolution of detectors. In this paper the relation between the position and the energy resolutions was derived. This relation accounts for the correlation between the signal fluctuations of readout detectors, as this is essential for the position resolution of strip detectors. Using this formula and the data of experimental calibration one can determine the position resolution of the strip detector for given coordinate of an incident particle.
