Abstract

Abstract Finlay and Marwick (1940) placed the Miocene-Pliocene boundary between the upper Miocene Urenuian Stage (later partly superseded by the Kapitean Stage) and the Lower Pliocene Opoitian Stage. This was done mainly on the evidence afforded by the record of Uvigerina pigmea d'Orbigny in the Italian type Plaisancian Stage and also in the Opoitian Stage.
