Abstract

The frequency of decubitus is considered an important quality-indicator. In international studies, the prevalence rate of decubitus is between 2.2% and 32% in hospitals, with the highest risk in intensive-care-units. Damage caused by pressure ulcer is a considerable health problem and is associated with an increased length-of-stay (LOS), nursing-effort, costs and reduced quality-of-life. The implementation of hybrid support surfaces has resulted in sustained reduction in the rate of pressure ulcer.
