Abstract

Poor outcomes and high budget pressure are challenges in renal replacement therapy. Therefore, personalized treatment approaches such as intensive home haemodialysis (iHHD; > 3x4 hours a week) are evaluated for suitable patients on their cost reduction potential and outcome improvement. A large body of international evidence has been published on the benefits of iHHD. However, questions remain how these positive effects translate into benefits for specific health systems. This analysis aims to estimate the financial impact of iHHD on medication use and hospitalization for Italy.
