Abstract

Numerous studies have suggested a possible role for acute kidney injury (AKI) biomarkers in predicting renal recovery after renal replacement therapy (RRT). In the context of AKI secondary to COVID-19 disease, little has been explored. Nonrecovery of renal function carries to significant negative effects. We recently reported that the urinary excretion of Serpin-A3 (uSerpA3) is an early marker of renal injury and fibrosis. In this study, we investigated uSerpA3 as a biomarker for predicting renal recovery following AKI in critical ill COVID-19 patients on invasive mechanical ventilation (IMV).
