Abstract

Kidney transplant is the best choice of treatment for patients with end stage kidney disease (ESKD). Psychological and mental status of the recipient may pose an ethical and legal questions for kidney allocation. Patients with severe neurological disabilities may also create an ethical dilemma on whether or not to allocate them a deceased donor kidney transplant. On the other hand, knowing their decreased quality of life compared with their peers will add an ethical obligation to provide them with the best of care.
