Abstract
Peritonitis is a common infective complication of peritoneal dialysis (PD), which causes serious adverse sequelae including peritoneal membrane failure, necessitating conversion to hemodialysis and even mortality. Peritonitis could be secondary to enteric bacterial translocation during gastrointestinal endoscopic procedure. Although gastroscopy is often regarded as having a low infective risk, peritonitis after gastroscopy had been described previously. Owing to the limitation of small sample size in previous series, the risk of peritonitis after gastroscopy is not yet well characterized.
