Abstract

Cardiovascular disease is a highly common complication and the first cause of death in patients undergoing hemodialysis therapy. The cardiovascular mortality in these individuals is 10 to 20 fold more frequent than in the general population. The diagnosis of abnormalities by Doppler echocardiography is an important step for the characterization of individuals with higher cardiovascular risk. The aim of this study is to describe cardiovascular complications in our population and to compare their prevalence in patients with a proximal versus distal fistula.
