Abstract

Ischemic steal syndrome is a rare complication of arteriovenous fistula creation due to high blood flow in a low resistance vein and reversal of flow away from the higher resistance distal arterial bed into the vein. Several options including ligation of arteriovenous fistula, banding, proximalization of arterial inflow and distal revascularization and interval ligation (DRIL).
