Abstract

Emerging studies reported that tubulointerstitial injury plays a critical role in the progression of diabetic kidney disease(DKD).Tubulointerstitial injury mediated by imbalace of mitochondrial quality control (MQC) is essential for DKD pathogenesis. When mitochindria under stress, degrading of denatured proteins or misfolded proteins is blocked, transcriptional activation of mitochondrial molecular chaperones and protease gene populations encoded by nuclear DNA was initiated to maintain mitochondrial protein homeostasis——a process called mitochndrial unfolded protein response(UPRmt) which is crucial for MQC.Activating transcription factor 5(ATF5) function as the nuclear transcription factor of UPRmt in mammal, whether it involves in the tubule damage of DKD through UPRmt pathway remains unclear.
