Abstract

Peroxisomes are highly dynamic, changing in abundance in response to metabolic stress which present in many kinds of cells especially in liver cells and kidney cells. Peroxisomal homeostasis is regulated by a delicate balance between the formation of new peroxisomes and autophagic degradation of existing peroxisomes (pexophagy). Pexophagy dysregulation are linked to many neurological disorders, especially peroxisome biogenesis disorders (PBDs). However, our understanding of peroxisomes’ roles in diabetic nephropathy is still unclear.
