Abstract

Animal studies suggest that kidney vasculature in males may be more dependent on vasodilatory prostaglandins than females, though the role of prostaglandins in kidney hemodynamics in healthy humans is unknown. We sought to determine the effect of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibition and resultant inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis on kidney hemodynamics and renin angiotensin aldosterone system (RAAS) activity, and to explore whether differences in COX-2 effects exist between sexes.
