Abstract

Hypertension complicates up to 10% of UK pregnancies and is associated with three to five-fold increased risk of pre-eclampsia and adverse perinatal outcome with associated long-term increased risk of cardiovascular disease. The selection of antihypertensive agents in pregnancy is restricted due to concerns over potential adverse effects on the fetus.
