Patterns of HIV associated renal disease varies from acute kidney injury (AKI), HIV associated nephropathy (HIVAN), immune complex mediated, chronic kidney disease (CKD), and electrolyte and acid base disorders. Prerenal causes like dehydration, gastroenteritis, pancreatitis, and intrinsic causes like infections, septic shock, and antiretroviral agents, analgesics, toxins, and metabolic syndrome associated with antiretroviral therapy use, CKD with incidental HIV infection. Intrinsic renal disease like ischemic renal injury due to sepsis is most common cause of AKI, rare causes like post renal cause of AKI in HIV like medication induced crystalluria, hyperuricosuria, pelvic lymphadenopathy, retoperitoneal fibrosis.
