Abstract

ANCA-associated nephritis is a rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis in which neutrophils are strongly involved in the pathogenesis. Although immunosuppressive drugs are the mainstay of treatment, there is an urgent need to establish a treatment based on the pathogenesis. Leukotriene B4 (LTB4) is one of the eicosanoids generated through the metabolism of arachidonic acid by 5-lipoxygenase and leukotriene A4hydrolase (LTA4H). Although it is generally known that LTB4functions as a potent chemotactic factor for neutrophils via its receptor BLT1, the role of LTB4-BLT1 axis on glomerulonephritis has not been clarified.
