Abstract
The uncertain/unknown etiology (CKDu) is the common cause of chronic kidney diseases in the North Central Region (NCR) of Sri Lanka. Recently, an acute phenotype of CKDu has been described in the same region, histologically consistent with acute interstitial nephritis (AIN). It was defined by serum creatinine elevation above the normal laboratory range, associated renal damage markers, acute symptoms, and exclusion of known causes (Badurdeen et al., 2016). The clinical profiles of these patients are compatible with the diagnosis of acute kidney disease and disorders (AKD) definition (Levey et al., 2020).
